Professor Larry Cross gets back with his children, Pete and Deb to their birthplace, New Zealand, after many years in England. But this proves to be the start of a family feud, starting with Larry being arrested at the airport.

Marriott only has feelings of bitterness for his relatives, the Cross family. But for Pete, he has tempting plans. Miriana's ex-fiance reappears in her life and Hone wants to join an outlaw motorbike gang.

Professor Cross has been offered a post at Cambridge and it looks as if things will not be the same for the family now. Meanwhile, an unexpected threat arises.

Professor Cross believes he has stumbled upon Du Fresne's bottle, a historical relic which recount the battle between the Maori and the French.

While Professor Cross is away at a conference in San Francisco, Pete and Hone get busy on the house. Deb prefers to dabble in spirits.

Steve seems busy with a charity fund and convinces Pete to sit for the university's first year examination for him.

Professor Cross' favorite wine comes from a small vineyard, which must be closed.

A spate of letter-bombs puzzles the police. And lawyer Ratu Rewiri is as puzzled as they are.

Pete and Hone fly their radio-controlled model of a First World War airplane and find the past catching up with the present.
